I absolutely LOVE that song. It's sung by Leighton Meester (my future wife. she's doesn't know it yet). Anyway...
So my friends and I were talking about gay rights and stuff like that. It really got me thinking because I hadn't actually though about it before. Before I get into all that let me tell you about myself. I'm 17 (the birth year is wrong for a reason). I'm officially a senior because the seniors left today but on my progress report it says junior. I'm a bisexual male. I came out to myself about 8th grade. That's when I lost my gay virginity (me and my friends came up with that). I lost my straight virginity before that. In about November 2008, I came out to my best friend. Her response was that we could go check out hot guys together. Then in February of this year I came out to everyone but my parents (i did come out to my three older brothers though). My brothers handled it... as best they could I guess. My friends didn't care in the least. Then my mother found out. She didn't care and neither did my dad.
I have many straight, bisexual, lesbian, and gay friends. So in gym we started talking about gay rights. In this class it's me (bi), R (bi), H (lesbian), and K (straight). So I'm gonna talk about what we talked about.
First up is the military. I want to be a doctor, so going into the military is an option. The only problem is they have the don't ask don't tell policy. I'm sorry but I just came out of the closet, and I'll go to hell and back before I go in again. If people truly loved their country then they shouldn't have a problem fighting next to a gay man or woman.
Then we talked about who has it easier; a gay man or gay woman. I think it depends on the person. With a gay girl, she's got all the guys that want to be with her cause lesbians are hot, but then the women get freaked out. As for gay men, have you seen our female friends. We have an enormous amount. But usually few guy friends because they freak out. So it's hard and easy for both of us.
Then we started talking about gay marriage. My biggest thing is that straight people can go to Vegas and get married on a whim and the next day get a divorce, but two gay guys/girls can't get married even though they love each other. I'm not saying a straight marriage will never last. My parents have been happily married for twenty some odd years. My grandparents just celebrated their 50th anniversary. But when you stop us from getting married, you're denying us a chance to show the world we're in love. When you look at a straight couple, many people immediately look for a ring on their finger. But with gays you can't do that.
Last was religion. R, H, and K are all atheist. I've been protestant and wiccan. But now I'm just kinda there. I believe God exists but I don't pray or go to church. I have no problem with being whatever religion you choose to be. I have a Mormon friend, the girl I like is Catholic, and R used to be Jehovah's Witness. But when you preach how Jesus was kind and then say gays burn in hell I want to punch you. That's not kind. And then the ones that are like "Be gay. When you die God will sort it out." It's basically telling us that we're gonna burn in hell no matter what, but while we're here be gay.
Then they have that one scripture they always use. Well I looked it up. And it says that a man lying with another man is dirty. Doesn't say it's a sin. It says it's dirty.
And I'll be the first one to tell you, when I lay with another man it's rarely clean! ;D
